The Sport of Football has two sides. The side of the beautiful game and extremely gifted individuals. And the other side of the cut throat business. Their flip sides of the same coin and both need to exist for this game to win. No matter how much we love these players but at some point we have to know that this won’t last forever.
Seeing the Recent Messi Transfer, We saw the love he had for the club. And that was a really sad experience. Here is 5 of the most heart breaking transfers in recent history. This top 5 will include players whose absence was felt by fans of every team.
Iker Casillas shipped to Porto
If you have never even seen a single game of football, this will still hurt you. Iker Casillas was probably the best Goalkeeper in the history of Real Madrid and that is a big honor to bestow on him. From 1998-99, Casillas played for the Madrid B and C sides before making his way up to the first team. He made over 500 appearances in 16 years before being forced out of the Club. He loved the Club and you could see his emotion in his exit interview. One of the saddest interviews to exist.
Barcelona Transfer Luis Suarez to Atletico Madrid
After Starting to build up the ranks in Ajax and Liverpool Luis Suarez caught attention of FC Barcelona. They signed him in 2014 and he, Messi and Neymar quickly became the most lethal strike force of all time. They had a lot of success together. Once Neymar left Barcelona, the winning in Europe became rare. It began to get ugly no matter how much Messi and Suarez would score. Losing 8-2 to Bayern Munich was the last straw. They blew up the team and shipped Suarez off to Atletico Madrid even though he was the only bright spot on the team. His exit interview is something that will make you reach for the tissue box. He left on a free transfer to Atletico Madrid.
Franck Ribery Transfer to Fiorentina
Frank Ribery is not just another French Winger to Bayern Munich. He is a player who is an all-time great and in contention for the best attacker to grace them. In 12 years at the club he made 273 appearances for Bayern Munich. During that time he was awarded the French Footballer of the year 3 times and also made the UEFA Team of the Year. In 2013, he finished 3rd in the Ballon D’or Race behind Messi and Ronaldo. That’s what made him leaving a real bitter pill to swallow.
Daniele De Rossi to Boca Juniors
Daniele De Rossi was the defensive anchor for AS Roma for almost 20 years. He made his way up from the youth team and made over 450 appearances for Roma. Being at a team for the entire duration of your career really makes you beloved by everyone. He was not a flashy player but he would get the job done well. The only time he left the team was in 2019 and departed to Boca Juniors. His farewell from the club was an extravagant showing and definitely made the Roma Fans tear up.
Andres Iniesta to Vissel Kobe
Most of the saddest transfers are those of older players. Its because their contribution to their club is something no short term player can replicate. One player who was at Barcelona (Youth Team, B Team and First team) from 1996 to 2018 was Andres Iniesta. He played at the top level of football for Barcelona and always gave it his all every night. He was a true warrior and the best midfielder of our generation and maybe even all time. When Barcelona started to struggle at the European level, we saw a lot of their key players being shipped out. Iniesta was one of them.
